Hongkong #4: Sail Victoria Harbor on the Dukling junk

“Sunday morning, up with the lark
I think I'll take a walk in the park
Hey, hey, hey, it's a beautiful day…”

(Beautiful Sunday)

In fact, we didn’t take a walk in the park on Sunday morning but, in fact, a sailing tour in Victoria Harbor by Dukling, a traditional Chinese red-sail junk boat formerly used for fishing, with nearly 70 years of history.

Since Hongkong was mainly a fishing harbor in the old days, these Chinese junk boats are an indispensable part of Hongkong’s history. Therefore, Dukling has naturally become the icon of Hongkong.

Once a fishing boat, Dukling now sails across the renowned Victoria Harbor as a sightseeing cruise and provides boat tours to both tourists and Hongkong locals.

During the boat cruise, not only can visitors enjoy the stunning views of the Victoria Harbor but can also listen to the commentary to learn more about Hongkong history and fishermen culture.

There are many “taxi-cruises” to sail around the harbor but Dukling remains the best and also the most expensive one. Up till now, Dukling has welcomed more than 100,000 guests on board.

While waiting for Dukling to pickup around 10 guests, we had a chance to discover Victoria Harbor’s scene and a large number of people gathering around the place.

The atmosphere in the harbor was quite wonderful and relaxing with tourists and cruise passengers in an ideal afternoon without rain in the focasted thunderstorm weather.

An interesting & beautiful afternoon for tourists in Hongkong!
